Things As They Really Are

Welcome to my official blog.  First an explanation concerning the title of my blog, "Things As They Really Are".  This title comes from a verse within the Book of Mormon.

"For the Spirit speaketh the truth and lieth not. Wherefore, it speaketh of things as they really are, and of things as they really will be; wherefore, these things are manifested unto us plainly, for the salvation of our souls." -Jacob 4:13

Now why in the world would I choose a random phrase out of a random verse as the title of my blog?  The answer is the meaning behind the phrase.  Lets delve into it!

First lets reflect back to the trial and crucifixion of Christ.  Christ had just finished carrying his cross and was brought before the crowd that would decide his fate.  At this time Christ and Pilate had a conversation concerning many philosophical questions and concerning the identity of Christ.  The last thing or question Pilate asked Christ was this:

"What is Truth?" -John 18:38

Christ didn't answer him.  He was silent.  But let us ponder the question.  What if Christ had answered?!  Isn't this a answer if given would benefit all mankind!

This is a question that philosophers, theologians, and intellectuals have troubled over for ages.  If we are to understand what truth is, how it is discerned, and where  it comes from we would be able to solve so much.

Thankfully in the restoration scriptures (The Book of Mormon and The Doctrine and Covenants) the Lord gives us the definition of truth:

"The Spirit speaketh the truth...it speaketh of things as they really are." -Jacob 4:13

"And truth is a knowledge of things as they are, as they were, and as they are to come;" -D&C 93:24

The title of my blog is the definition the Lord gave of what Truth is.  I felt inspired to start this blog in order to do my part to shed light on a world that is darkened.  In our world today there is so much truth mixed with error.  There is so much falsehood branded as politically correct.  There is lack of light in the world.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie says this about truth: "There is no salvation in believing a false doctrine.  Truth, diamond truth, truth unmixed with error, truth alone leads to salvation."

President Uchtdorf tells us that the amount of truth we understand is directly connected to the light and joy we have in our life:  "Strength and Happiness is to be found built on a foundation of Truth and Light."

Thus any lack of truth presents to us a measure of despair in our life.  In order to battle this the truth needs to be exposed.  Political correctness needs to give way to what God has deemed correct.  False doctrines need to give way to the truth.  Faith needs to be built on things as the really are.

I am not saying I have all the answers but as you make this journey with me perhaps the light of our understandings can be increased.  Perhaps the Lord has something in store.
